The Challenge
A multi-tenant office building in Troy was running on shared physical keys and a buzzer. Tenants came and went, keys were copied and rarely returned, and there was no way to separate one suite's access from another or to know who had entered the building. The property manager had no record of after-hours entry, and the front desk couldn't reliably screen visitors before letting them in.
The property manager needed clean, auditable access — separate credentials and logging per suite, screened visitors at the front desk, and the ability to add or remove tenants without re-keying the building — all installed without taking any suite offline.
The Solution
We designed access control that gives each tenant its own separate credentials and access logging under one central system, so every suite is independent while the property manager keeps building-wide oversight. Employees use badge or mobile credentials, every entry is logged to a person and a time, and a departed tenant or lost credential is handled in seconds — no building re-key.
At the main entrance, we added a video intercom so front-desk staff can see, speak with, and screen every visitor before releasing the door. AI cameras cover the lobby, common areas, and parking, giving clear footage to resolve incidents and support liability claims. We phased the rollout suite by suite so no tenant lost access during the work, and every cable and device was installed by our own licensed, background-checked W-2 technicians — never subcontractors.
The Result
The building now runs on clean, auditable access. Each suite has its own separate credentials and logging, visitors are screened at the front desk, and the property manager can add or remove tenants in seconds without ever re-keying the building. After-hours entry is fully logged, and common-area cameras give clear footage when something needs review.
The entire system was installed suite by suite with no tenant downtime, turning a copied-key liability into a modern, accountable access system the property manager can run day to day.
Why Michigan Security Systems
This project shows why office security is about clean, scalable access as much as protection — separate tenant control, visitor screening, and a full audit trail, all under one system. Because our own technicians handled every suite start to finish — never subcontractors — there was one accountable team and no tenant disruption. It's the same approach behind our office security systems and access control across Michigan.
